This video records a group of young Karenni men and women performing the hymn “Hallelujah” at the ruins of a church destroyed during military attacks in Karenni State. By singing directly in front of the burned structure, the performers transform a site of violence into a place of communal expression.
The church was burned by Burmese military forces in 2022, and landmines were planted around the compound. In 2023 a pastor returned to organize music and education programs for displaced youth.
